Made my way to Asagaya Jazz Street 2011 last Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately got there a bit late Friday night and missed out on the free outdoor gigs scattered round the neighborhood, but my buddy One Box Record Fair (@obrftokyo on Twitter) caught a couple nice sets at Cafe Ebesu. Saturday was better as I caught a klezmer-sounding group out on the street, a solo trumpet player doing some very authentic Louis Armstong, then back to Cafe Ebesu for a couple different groups, including Bluegrass Stomp! (Not just jazz at the AJS).
Next year am going to be sure to get the "passport" ticket which lets you jump in and out of multiple venues for one price. Hopefully can see whoever is playing at the Shinto Shrine near the station, this year was Yamashita Yosuke and it sounded great when we walked by. Up next, Kunitachi Power Jazz next weekend!
